Suzanne was the youngest of the seven daughters of Douwe and Sjoukje (Holtrop) Dykstra. After attending the Christian School and the Northwestern Classical Academy in Orange City, she married the love of her life, Wilbur Ver Steeg, on November 15, 1934. They made their home in Orange City where they raised their three children. In later years they lived at Pioneer Village, Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, and most recently, in the same room at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

Sue was a member of the First Reformed Church and faithfully read and followed God's word. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Orange City. During the years she was employed at DeVries Interiors in Orange City, her patient and gracious demeanor earned the respect of many customers. Sue has been a very special person to everyone she meets; her ability to remember an individual’s name, home town, goals in life, and children's names, after one meeting them for the first time are legendary and have endeared her to all. She has passed on her love of the Lord to her children, grandchildren and "greats"; all feel blessed by having had her as an anchor in their lives.

Those celebrating her life include her three children and their spouses: Dr. Jackson and Charlene Ver Steeg of West Des Moines, Sharon and Al Johansson of Plymouth, MN, Wilbur Jay "Bill" and Jan Ver Steeg of Humboldt; eight grandchildren: Dr. Sue ( J.D.) Haas, Kristen Ver Steeg, Kimberly Ver Steeg, Jackson ( Fiona ) Ver Steeg, Sarah Johansson, Becky (Geoff) Roise, Nancy (Dr. Mark) Turek, and Andrea (Nathan) Teigland; eleven great-grandchildren: Jackson and Madeline Haas; Joshua, Hannah, and Elizabeth Roise;
Joshua, Emily, and Mikayla Turek; Ann and Clara Teigland; and Jackson Ver Steeg, III,
She is also lovingly remembered by sister-in-law, Wilmina Ver Steeg, special friend, Rachel Klay, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; a stillborn daughter, Mary Sue; and six sisters, Maggie Siebersma, Edith Vink, Hattie Oolman, Tillie Kuiken, Teenie Vogelaar, and Jennie Muilenburg.
