Richard Raymond Madock, 73, of Hawarden died Saturday, March 17, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.

Services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 P.M at the funeral home.

Madock was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 12, 1933, to Raymond and LaVerne (Dennis) Madock. He served for a short time in the U.S. Army. He resided in Chicago, where he worked for Faucher Brothers Cartage Trucking. He was a 25 year Teamster member until he moved to Hawarden after a stroke disabled him. He married LaVerne Hughes on February 20, 1987, in Fort Lauderdale, Flordia.

He loved the Cubs and Bears and enjoyed playing cards, testing his luck with lottery scratch cards and solving search-a-words. In his younger days he also enjoyed golf. Trucking was always his passion and Chicago will forever be in his heart.

Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Madock of Hawarden; his mother, LaVerne Madock of Vallejo, California; his children, Linda Hughes of Hawarden, Charlie and Laura "Beanie" Hughes of Akron, Georgia Opsahl of Addison, Illinois, Rich and Jeanette Madock of Oak Park, Illinois, Michael and Katie Madock of River Forest, Illinois, Dan and Carol Madock of Highland Park, Illinois, Karen and Glen Longhorn of Hawarden, James Madock of Whittier, California, Denny Hughes of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Patti and Chip Sage of Oak Park, Illinois, Carol and Tom Hegarty of Lonetree, Colorado, Jeff Hughes and his special friend Lill Herum of Estherville; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn "Lynn" Van Zevern of Vallejo, California; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny (Barnum) Myers.
