Martin Larson, 61, a resident of Hawarden for 25 years, passed away at his home at 10:30 Saturday morning following a lingering illness of a number of years. He was bedfast about three months preceding his death.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. C. A. Burkart in charge. Interment was in Grace Hill cemetery.

Martin John Larson, son of Lars Martinson and Christina Anderson, was born in Oslo, Norway, on October 10, 1884 where he grew to manhood. He came to American in 1902 locating at Beresford, where he was employed on farms. He was united in marriage with Augusta Carlson of Beresford on February 18, 1914. To this union were born nine children.

After his marriage he farmed about seven years, coming to Hawarden in 1921. For 14 years, he was employed in the North Western railroad yards in this city. He became ill in the spring of 1935 and later spent a couple of years at the sanitarium at Oakdale, Iowa. Since 1939, he has been under the constant care of his faithful wife. Although greviously afflicted, he nevertheless maintained a cheerful disposition until the end.

He is survived by his wife and six children. Marvin of Alcester; Reuben of Roscoe, Calif.; Mrs. Charles Murphy of San Francisco, Calif.; and Leslie, Jeanette and Ruth of Hawarden. He was preceded in death by three children, Raynold in 1930, Lawrence Carl in 1931, and Leland, who was killed in action while serving his country on Okinawa last May 6.
