Leona Fern Ludwigs, 83, of Hawarden died Thursday, March 1, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.

Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hawarden Community Church, with the Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ludwigs was born July 10, 1923, on a farm in Eagle Township, Sioux County, to Charles and Beatrice (Henderson) Richmond. She attended country school in Eagle Township. She worked at various places in Hawarden, including Tilgner’s Ben Franklin, Otis Radio and as a janitor at Farmer’s State Bank and Ver Hoef Chevrolet-Olds. She also did domestic work in various homes. She married Lawrence Ludwigs on May 19, 1962, at First Baptist Church in Hawarden.

She was a member of First Baptist Church for 53 years and immensely enjoyed being the financial secretary for a number of years. She became a member of the Hawarden Community Church in 1998. She enjoyed collectibles.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence; and nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Ernest Richmond; and a sister, Wanda Short.
