MOTHER OF MRS. WALTER JONES DIED AT LEMARS SATURDAY

Mrs. Catherine Lucey of Merrill, mother of Mrs. Walter Jones of Hawarden, passed away Saturday [Feb. 8] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. E Lambert in LeMars, following a brief illness of a few days. Mrs. Jones was called to LeMars last Thursday by her illness and remained with her until the end.

Funeral services, which were to have been held Monday, were postponed until Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. They were held at the Assumption Catholic church at Merrill with Rev. Fr. T. J. McKenna officiating at requiem mass.

Catherine McAndrews, a lifelong resident of Iowa, was born in Benton county March 24, 1854. Later she moved to Crawford county where she taught in the first school in that section. After her marriage to Jeremiah Lucey, she moved to Vail, living there four years. They also resided in Carroll, Battle Creek, Odebolt and Merrill. She lived in Merrill 20 years until Mr. Lucey’s death in 1925. Since leaving Merrill she made her home most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Lambert in LeMars. Mrs. Lucey made her home with Mrs. Jones in Hawarden for a time two years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jones of Hawarden, Mrs. Lambert of LeMars and Mrs. H. E. Cody of Sioux City; five sons, A. P. and Marquette of Sioux City, Joe of Merrill, George of Auburn, Iowa, and Dr. L. I. Lucey of Wichita Falls, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Rose Lynch of Ramona, S.D.; and two brothers, Bert McAndrews of Vail and Ned McAndrews of Denison. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren.
