Mrs. John Maassen, Sr., of Maurice passed away at 12:15 A.M., Monday, Oct. 12 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Andrew Sneller of Sioux Center. Mrs. Maassen, nee Gertrude Vander Weerd was born on December 14, 1853 at Ede, Netherlands and died at the age of 88 years and 10 months. Thirty-nine years ago she with her husband and family came to American.

She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, Herman of North Holland, Mich., Teunis of Maurice and Henry of Sheldon and one daughter, Nellie, Mrs. Andrew Sneller of Sioux Center. She is also survived by 2 brothers John and Herman Vander Weerd.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Andrew Sneller home and 2 o'clock in the First Reformed Church at Maurice.

Interment was made in the Sherman Township Cemetery.
