John Maatman, Sr., 97, of Sioux Center died Saturday, November 6, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Services were at 2 P.M., Tuesday, November 9, at Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center, with the Rev. John Hulst officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Maatman was born September 10, 1896, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Helena (Radius) Maatman. He married Cora Van Proyen on April 25, 1918, in Chicago. He was employed as a draftsman most of his working life. He moved to Sioux Center after his retirement in 1976. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. During most of his retirement, he was part of the Foster Grandparent Program at Hope Haven.

Survivors include his son Russell and his wife Jean of Sioux Center; five grandchildren, John and his wife Anne Maatman, Susan and her husband Larry Meyers, Rebecca Maatman, Deborah and her husband Steven Baker and Ruth and her husband Roger Carter; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Maatman, in 1976
