Marie Elizabeth Lancaster, 87, of Orange City died Sunday, July 7, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.
Funeral service was Tuesday, July 9, at 1:30 P.M., at the American Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Mrs. Lancaster was born May 22, 1915, at Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (De Zeeuw) Wandscheer. She was raised at Sioux Center, attended Northwestern College in Orange City and graduated from Westmar College in LeMars. She was an elementary teacher in the Early Community School and Boone Community School. Later, she was the librarian in the Maurice-Orange City Community Schools. On Septemer 25, 1942, she married Edgar Owen Lancaster in Sioux Center. He died August 8, 1991, in Orange City. In April of 2001, she became a resident of Plymouth Manor.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and catechism classes and gave music instruction. She also sang in the choir and served as church librarian. In addition, she belonged to PEO and the National, Iowa and M-OC Education Association.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, James H. and Jean Lancaster of Ida Grove; and Jon E., and Sarah Lancaster of Madison, Wisconsin; a daughter, Jean Grosenheider of LeMars; four grandsons; and a brother and his wife, John and Martha Wandscheer, of Kansas City, Missouri.
She was also preceded in death by two infant sons.
Memorials will be directed to the American Reformed Church for its library and for choir music.
