Charles Malmstrom, 69, a Union County resident for the past 55 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 1942, after a short illness. A short funeral service was held at his home in Garland vicinity on Saturday afternoon, then at the Big Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Clayton Bolinder in charge, and the remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the family plot in the Big Springs cemetery.

Charles Malmstrom was born in Narke, Sweden, in 1872 and came to America to make his future home in the year of 1886, settling here in the Big Springs vicinity with his parents. In 1896 he was united in marriage to Miss Alma Ericson, and to this union was born three sons and six daughters, all of whom survive. Mrs. Malstrom passed away 12 years ago. In 1902 the Malmstroms left this vicinity, and settled on a farm a mile and a half south of the Garland school, and he had lived there for 40 years; and these past several years with his daughter, Mrs. Emil Fredell and her family who have been running the farm. His health had not been the best for this past year, but he had not been seriously ill until shortly before his death. Besides his nine children he leaves one brother, a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other relatives, in Big Springs and Akron vicinities.
