Bessie Mangelsen, 87, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, September 4, in the Community Hospital in Hawarden.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, Sept. 7 in the Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dwight Rengstorf officiated. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery. The family was present for visitation from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M., Thursday, Sept. 7, and a prayer service followed at the Dow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mangelsen, the former Bessie Transue, was born May 21, 1897, in Chula, Mo. She attended rural schools in Missouri.

She married Jake Mangelsen Aug. 1, 1919, in Sioux City. Together they farmed near Hawarden, then near Glenwood for five years, and moved back to a farm near Hawarden. They retired and moved into town in 1961.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Elmer of Middleton, Idaho, and Calvin of Hermosa, S.D.; four daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Violet) Hendricks of Chatsworth, Mrs. L. E. (Helen) Neth of Malin, Ore.; Mrs. Darrel (Shirley) Ramhorst of Sioux Center, and Mrs. Bruce (Darlene) McPherson, of Hawarden; one brother, John and one sister, Della Stevenson, both of Chula; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
