AUGUST LUKEN OF GRANVILLE DIES; FUNERAL THERE SATURDAY 9:30

August Luken, well known Granville resident, died at the Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars at 5:30 this Wednesday morning [Sept. 24]. Mr. and Mrs. Luken had returned Friday from the Mayo clinic at Rochester; he had a turn for the worse Tuesday evening and was taken to the LeMars hospital, where he passed on a few hours later without regaining consciousness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 A.M. from St. Joseph church in Granville.

Mr. Luken was born May 19, 1893 at LeMars and was 65 years of age. He married Lenore Nelle in Minneapolis in June 1919 and six children were born to the couple, one having died in infancy. Surviving children are Mrs. Richard Harm and Mrs. Alvin Harm of Yankton, Mrs. Bob Schwartz of Granville, Mrs. Clark Carnes of Holstein and one son, Robert, a student at Iowa State College. Other survivors include two sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Luken lived in Granville since 1916 and for many years was in the hardware and lumber business with his brother. The last ten years he operated a feed business in Granville. He served in World War I and was a member of the American Legion. He was mayor of Granville for several terms, also sity clerk, and was always active in forwarding the interests of his home town, where his experience and good judgment were valuable assets. A devoted family man, his many contacts and friendly disposition won for him a legion of friends.
