DEATH OF MRS. JENNIE LUCKEY
LONG TIME RESIDENT PASSED AWAY LAST FRIDAY
Was 78 Years of Age and Lived in This Community Over 30 Years -- Funeral Held Monday

Mrs. Jennie Luckey, a long time resident of this community, passed away last Friday at the O'Kinnon cottage at Cherokee from infirmities incident to her advanced years. The remains were brought to Hawarden last Friday night and funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Ross Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Clay Morris, pastor of the Baptist church of this city. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Miss Esther Squier, Mrs. Amos Green, J. E. Tilgner and Blythe Green. By special request of the family John Drier sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Members of the Rebekah lodge, of which the deceased had long been an honored member, attended the funeral services in a body.

Jennie Butler, daughter of William and Caroline Butler, was born near Muscatine, Iowa, March 4, 1854, and passed away Nov. 18, 1932 at Cherokee, Iowa, at the advanced age of 78 years, 8 months and 14 days. She was one of a family of thirteen children, two of whom survive her, Alfred Butler of Portland, Ore., and Hammond Butler of Texas.

She grew to womanhood in Muscatine where on July 28, 1869, she was united in marriage with Francis Marion Luckey. Three children were born to this union, all of whom survive. They are George Lucky [i.e., Luckey] of Topeka, Kan., Mrs. Charles M. Keehn of Hawarden and Mrs. A. F. Storts of Hecla, S.D. There are also three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

For a few years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Luckey made their home at Muscatine and later moved to Lone Tree, Iowa, where they resided for a time, after which they moved to the community near Kimball, S.D., where they homesteaded and made their home for sixteen years. They were finally obliged by the severe drought conditions to leave their South Dakota homestead and came to this community in 1898 and farmed until Mr. Luckey's health failed, compelling them to give up their work, after which they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. C. M. Keehn, where they were cared for.

Mr. Luckey passed away on Dec. 3, 1928, and Mrs. Luckey continued to live with her daughter until a year or two ago when her health became such that it was considered best to remove her to the hospital at Cherokee where she was cared for until the last.

Mrs. Luckey united with the Baptist church in 1910 and was an active member for years. She was also a member of the Rebekah and Woodmen Circle lodges and of the Women's Relief Corps. She was a good wife, a kind mother and a true friend and many staunch friends outside the family circle mourn her death.

Out of town relatives and friends who were here to attend the funeral included Mrs. A. F. Storts of Hecla, S.D.; Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Brunner of Akron; A. S. Gillin of Akron; Mrs. Jas. Suddaby of Doon; Mrs. G. Keith of Doon; Mrs. W. E. Beam of Sioux City; Mrs. Nettie Luckey of Sioux City; and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Law of Bronson, Iowa.
