AN OLD SETTLER GONE
Mr. Andrew Van der Stoep passed peacefully away last night after a brief illness, at his home near the First Reformed church. Because of his advanced age and the seriousness of his illness the end was not unexpected.
Andrew Van der Stoep was born at Klaaswaal, in the Netherlands, in 1829. He was united in marriage before he came to this country with Miss Johanna Harbers. In 1856 Mr. and Mrs. Van der Stoep came to America and settled at Pella where they resided until 1871, when they moved to Sioux county. Until 1893 they lived on the farm west of town. Some years ago Mrs. Van der Stoep died. The children of this marriage are: Frank of this city, Floris of Rock Valley, Nicholas of Maurice, Mrs. O. De Roos of Hull, Mrs. J. Ellerbroek of Sibley, Andrew of Sioux Center, Mrs. Peter Schoep of Sioux Center. In 1902 Mr. Van der Stoep was married to Mrs. Veldhizen with whom he lived until her death in 1907. Since her death T. Van der Stoep and wife of Edgerton, Minn., a brother of Mr. Van der Stoep has been living with him.
Mr. Van der Stoep was a man of lovable disposition and had a host of friends and acquaintances in this county and elsewhere. He was for seventeen years deacon in the first Reformed church of this city and has always been a useful and progressive citizen. The funeral services will be held at the First Reformed church Saturday afternoon at 1:30.

A brief obituary in the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad, Dec. 23, 1908, says he died of appendicitis.
His marriage record to Johanna Harbers (genlias database) shows his parents as Fleuris van der Stoep and Trijntje Vos.
The family came to America on the ship Ocean Home, arriving in New Orleans May 1856 (Swierenga, Dutch Immigrants in U.S. Passenger Lists).
