Cornelius "Case" Dekkenga, age 89, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 25, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating.

Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Thursday, prior to the Funeral Service, from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M with the family present from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon.

Cornelius "Case" Dekkenga was born on May 3, 1920, in Grant Township, Boyden, Iowa. He was the son of John and Allie (Langstraat) Dekkenga. He lived his youth on a farm in rural Matlock, Iowa, where he attended a country school. Case was drafted into the U.S. Army. While he was home on furlough he was united in marriage to Evelyn Tammes of Sheldon, Iowa, on November 10, 1942, in Sheldon. They moved to El Paso, Texas, where they lived until Case went overseas from 1943 to 1945. Evelyn moved back to Sheldon until Case was honorably discharged in 1945. They lived and farmed in Sheldon until they moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, where Case worked for New Idea. He retired in 1984 and they moved back to Sheldon.
Case and Evelyn enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and gardening.
Case was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sheldon where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the American Legion and was a Mason and Shriner.
He passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 67 years: Evelyn Dekkenga of Sheldon, IA; four brothers: Willis Dekkenga of Schofield, WI, Louis and Freda Dekkenga of Ocheyedan, IA, Martin Dekkenga of Sioux Center, IA, John Jr. and Shirley Dekkenga of Burnsville, MN; one sister: Lucy Bosma of Sibley, IA; two brothers-in-law: George Baker of Summer Shade, KY, Marv Bomgaars of Mason City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Herman Dekkenga; two sisters: Angelina Baker and Anna Bomgaars.
