Hawarden Independent, Hawarden, Sioux, Iowa, USA January 8, 2004

Clarence "Red" Horton, 83, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center. Funeral service was Jan. 3 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial
was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence "Red" Horton was" born Feb. 29, 1920 on a farm near Bronson, Iowa the son of Walter and Helen (Moyes) Horton. They moved to Akron in 1937. He helped his dad farm prior to his marriage to Arlene Plueger on Oct. 10,1940 at Akron. They farmed until 1954 when they moved to Centerville, S.D. where he and his brother Art operated the John Deere Implement Co. for three years. They moved back to Hawarden and farmed southeast of town until moving into town in 1974. Red worked for Heldt and Peterson Implement until retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hawarden.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; seven children, Shirley Nelson of Elk Point, Patty Torgerson of Phoenix, Ariz., Rich Horton of Hurley, S. D., Rose Gereau of Weslaco, Texas, Karel Dekkers of Hawarden, Mary Horton of Sioux City and Robert Horton of Hawarden; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Horton of
LeMars, Glen Horton of Sioux City, and Cecil Horton of Akron; sister, Dorothy Oloff of Bettendorf, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Fern (Mrs. Art Horton) of Pipestone, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a brother Art.
