John Herman Of Hawarden Dies

Funeral services for John Robert Herman, 90, longtime Hawarden resident who died Saturday at the Hawarden hospital, were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Barnard-Dow Funeral home. Dr. G. S. Bruland officiated with burial at Grace Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr.. was the soloist with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker at the organ. Casket bearers were Donald Reinking. Robert Garrett, John Ervin, Clarence Carr. Mose Hendricks, Jr., and George Hirschman.

Mr. Herman was born April 3, 1875, at Beloit, S. D. He moved to the Hawarden community in 1913 and farmed for a number of years before moving to town. He was employed by a railroad for 15 years.

He married Mrs. Mary Lowell of Pennsylvania in January of 1908 at Canton, S. D. She died March 24, 1959.

Mr. Herman was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vernon March of Hawarden; a son, Raymond Herman of Allen, Neb.; four stepdaughters. Mrs. Charles Herman of Tyler. Minn., and Mrs. Florence Nichols. Mrs. Mabel Murkins and Mrs. Letha Parkhurst all of Sioux City; two stepsons, Frank Lowell of Sioux City and Charles Lowell of Hawarden; 21 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.
