Tragic Accident Claims Life Of 9-Year-Old Jeffrey Case

Jeffrey G. Case, 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Case of Hawarden, was injured fatally Saturday morning in a bicycle-car accident which occurred about 9:30 a. m. at the intersection of Highway 12 and Third street in the south part of Hawarden.

According to Police Chief Mel Hulleman the young boy was enroute to the Otis plant on his bicycle when he swerved into the path of a car driven by Steven Douglas Youngkin, of Hawarden. Youngkin and Annie Dykstra, a passenger in the car, were reported to have escaped without injury.

Assisting with the investigation of the accident was Terry Pullman, Iowa highway patrolman from Sibley. No charges were filed.

Memorial Services for Jeffrey were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at St Mary's Catholic church with Rev. William Carel officiating. The rosary was recited at the Dow Funeral home at 8 p. m. Monday. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery with the Dow Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Active casket bearers were Bruce Bolster, Gregg Peppers, Larry Abbey, Clem Lundberg, William Bowden and David Kemper. Honorary casket bearers included Patrick Hendricks, Dennis Heeren, Bill McCarthy, Tom Gant, Doug Jurrens and Vincent Gallagher.

Jeffrey was born January 14, 1958 at Huron, S. D. He moved to Hawarden with parents about four years ago and was a third grade student at St Mary's Catholic school.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Judy, at home; a half sister, Mrs. Dale Rogers of Huron; two half brothers, Scott Remington of Huron, and Randall Remington of Frankfurt, Germany, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lottie Case of Hawarden
