Sgt. Larry Scott Killed In Vietnam On February 24

Robert H. Scott of Hawarden received word Saturday, morning that his son, Sgt. Larry Robert Scott, 23, had been killed in Vietnam.

Sgt Scott died February 24 when he was a passenger in a tank on jungle clearing operations. The tank was hit by an enemy anti-tank weapon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Associated church with Rev. Herbert C. Young officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Sgt. Scott was born June 8, 1943, at Hawarden. He attended elementary school and high school here and entered the armed services in January, 1904. He was first in the conflict in Vietnam in November of 1964.

Survivors include his father, Robert H. Scott of Hawarden; his mother, Mrs. Arlene Cotter of St. Anne, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. William (La Von) Heubrock, Jr., of Cherokee, and four brothers, Robert, John, Danny and James, all of Hawarden.

Sgt Scott was. the first Hawarden serviceman to be killed in Vietnam.

Services Held For Hawarden Soldier

Funeral services for Sgt, Larry Scott, first Hawarden serviceman to be killed in Vietnam, were held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Associated church with Rev. Herbert C. Young officiating.

Casket bearers were Denny Schoenrock, Larry Watkins, Dick Liston, Bill Scott, Rocky Younie and Don Abbott. Music was provided by Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., soloist, and Mrs. Hal Shoemaker, organist.

Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under direction of the Barnard-Dow Funeral home. Military graveside rites were conducted by Two Oakes Post No. 254 of the American Legion. A military escort accompanied the body of
Sgt. Scott, to Hawarden.

Among those from out of town attending the services were Mrs. Roy Cotter, Elmer Talsma, Mrs. Harry Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scott, Mrs. John Holtzer, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Otis, Clinton Utech, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ufken, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Raynie, Mr. and Mrs. John Boyles, Mrs. Norman Bruget and Lt. Col. Young Moore III.
