Hubert L. Van Skike, 87, of Ireton, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 5, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the United Methodist Church in Ireton, Iowa, with the Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton immediately following the service. Visitation with the family present will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, before the service.
Hubert was born June 24, 1922 in Ireton, Iowa, the son of Edith (Chenhall) Van Skike. He graduated from Ireton High School in 1939, and attended Iowa State University. He made his home on the family farm where he raised cattle and crops for most of his life.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ireton. Hubert loved spending time with his nephews and nieces, and grand-nephews and nieces, sharing his love for camping, fishing, bird-watching, and all the family pets.
Survivors include a sister, Mary (Van Skike) Jinks and husband Bill of Churdan, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Nancy Van Skike of Ireton; five nephews, Gary Van Skike, Troy Van Skike, Don Jinks, Jack and Lynn Van Skike; four nieces, Deb (Van Skike) Noteboom, Mary (Jinks) Wilson, Kathy (Jinks) Johnson, and Patti (Jinks) Flores; and numerous grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother Edith (Chenhall) Van Skike; three brothers, Bill, John, and Delbert Van Skike and a nephew, Ray Van Skike.
