Rites Held Here For Mrs. Doctor of Edmonton, Can.
Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Doctor, 93, of Edmonton, Canada, who died there Thursday were held at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home in Hawarden. Rev. William Sebring, of the Associated church officiated.
Mrs. Hal Shoemaker was the organist and she accompanied Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., soloist.
Casket bearers included Monroe Lundberg, Dave Gearhart, Lloyd Johnson, Glenn Hansen, Charles Horton and Bob Koob.
Kate Leggett was born January 5, 1869, and resided here as a girl. She was the last remaining member of the students from the Calliope academy and was the last member of the Leggett family. Her parents operated a hotel in Calliope.
She married Mr. Starkey and for a time lived in Hawarden after which they went into mining at Edmonton.
Following the death of Mr. Starkey, she married John Doctor, a brother of Mrs. A.D. Horton of Hawarden. Mr. Doctor also preceded he in death.
Survivors include three sons, Walter Starkey of Houston, Texas, and Jack and Beacham Starkey, both of Edmonton.
Attending services here were a granddaughter, Mrs. Virginia Edgecomb of Houston, Texas and a grandson, jack Starkey, jr., of Long Beach, Calif.
