Gerrit Van Bruggen, the son of W Aart and Elizabeth (Van Oosting) Van Bruggen was born on June 22, 1915 in Litchville, ND where he also received his education. He moved to Iowa and farmed in the Archer area. On December 27, 1945 he was united in marriage to Fannie Smit in Hospers, IA. The couple farmed near Boyden, IA until 1947 when they moved to a farm near Sheldon. He retired from farming in 1980. Fannie preceded him in death on August 27, 1981 and he remained on the farm until 1984 when he moved into Sheldon. He became a resident of Landsmeer Ridge in Orange City and on August 9, 2000 he moved into the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon, IA. He passed away on September 1, 2000 at the Oak Park Care Center, reaching the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 10 days.
Gerrit was a memeber of the First Christian Reformed church in Sheldon and served on the Consistory. he enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren.
Gerrit is survived by his five children: Kaleen and her husband Harlyn Santema of Sioux Falls, SD; Arthur and his wife Nancy of Boyden; Faye and her husband Bob Krause of Chandler ,AZ; Roger and his wife Deb of Hospers, IA; Eugene and his wife Krista of Sheldon, IA; 16 grandchildren and a sister, Allie Lode of Sheldon, IA and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters: Anne Smit and Grace Sierdsma.
