BARNEY H. ZIGTEMA
Mr. Barney H. Zigtema, age 86, of Orange City, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at Marian Health Center in Sioux City.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 17, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City was in charge.
Barney was born March 5, 1909, in Roseland, Chicago, Illinois, the son of Henry and Jessie (Post) Zigtema. His family lived at Wichert, Illinois, until 1918, when they moved to northwest Iowa. He began work as a farm laborer at the age of 13. On August 1, 1932, he married Henrietta De Zeeuw. They continued to farm in northwest Iowa until 1966, when they moved into Orange City. Barney then assisted in several farm related activities.
Mr. Zigtema was currently a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City and a former member of the First Reformed Churches of Doon and Hull.. He had served on the consistories of all the churches.
He leaves to mourn his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Harriet Jean and Gordon Boscaljon. of Orange City; Glenda Kae and Lyman Hobson, of Merrill; and Audrey Ann and Marvin Ver Mulm, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota: eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; five sisters, Tena Vogelzang, of Rock Valley; Till Roghair, of Lakewood, California; Sadie Roghair, of Ames; Dorthea Rozeboom, of Hartley: and Harriett Roos, of Harlan; two brothers, Walter, of Hawarden; and Raymond, of Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his brother, Sam: and a brother and sister in childhood.
