THOMAS WIERDA
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Thomas Wierda, 81, of Orange City died Friday, March 19, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at American Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City.
Mr. Wierda was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Rock Rapids to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wierda. He was raised in Northwest Iowa. He served in the United States Navy during World War II..
He married Lucille Corrine Kleinhesselink in Orange City. They lived in Orange City until 1951, when they moved to Hawarden, Iowa. They returned to Orange City in 1956.
He was an interior decorator, retiring in 1994.
He attended the American Reformed Church and was a member of Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post. He was an avid trapshooter.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Wierda of Orange City; a son and his wife, Jerry and Kathy Wierda of Parker, Colo.; a granddaughter, Allyson Wierda; three sisters, Delia Franken and Martha Van Roekel, both of Sioux City, and Myrtle Kiel of Orange City; and three brothers, Reynold, Marvin and Bernard, all of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Bakker and Lewis Wierda; and two sisters, Henrietta Parsonson and Jane Eva Duits.
