HENRIETTA ZIGTEMA
ORANGE CITY- Iowa — Henietia Zigtema. 92, of Orange City passed away Friday, Oct.29, 2004, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Iowa.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Monday in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. There will be a family prayer service at 1 p.m. Monday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 1:30 p.m. today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home.
Henrietta was born on April 10, 1912. in rural Orange City, the daughter of Gerrit and Kate (Wassenaar) De Zeeuw. She was raised on a farm between Orange City and Sioux Center, where she attended a country school.
On Aug.1, 1932. she married Barney H. Zigtema. They farmed in Northwest Iowa, mostly near Doon, where she was a homemaker and farming partner with her husband. In 1966. Mr. and Mrs. Zigtema moved into Orange City, where
she was employed at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Barney passed away on July 12, 1995, in Sioux City, after 62 years of marriage. Later, Henrietta became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. On Jan.1, 2003, she transferred to the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
She was currently a member of First Reformed Church in Orange City. In earlier years. she was a member of the Doon Reformed Church, where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Zigtema liked reading, sewing and gardening. She made beautiful hand-stitched quilts and enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters. Harriet Jean and her husband, Gordon Boscaljon, of Johnston, Iowa. Glenda Hobson of Merrill, Iowa and Audrey and her husband, Marvin Ver Mulm, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 11 grandchildren, Bill Boscaljon. Bob Boscaljon, Chuck Boscaljon, Gayle Williamson, Jim Boscaljon, Jodi Zomermaand, Russ Hobson, Heidi Cassaday, Hope Hoss, Laura Bardeguez and Mike Vander Mulm: 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Patricia "Nell" Maher, of Newport Richey, Fla.; and a brother Melvin De Zeeuw, of Sacramento, Calif.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lyman Hobson; and two brothers, Bert De Zeeuw and Gerrit De Zeeuw; and two sisters, Dora Mantel and Katherine Van De Berg.
