JOHN S. WYNIA
John S. Wynia, 65, of Sioux Center died Thursday, Aug. 4, 1994 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Services were held Saturday, Aug. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Rev. Donald Barnes and Rev. Arnold Punt officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center under direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center.
John, son of Sam and Minnie (Draayer) Wynia, was born Dec. 5, 1928 in Maurice. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He was married to Nelvie Kroeze of Alton on Dec. 26, 1951. The couple lived on a farm west of Sioux Center.
John served in the Korean Conflict, Army Field Artillery, from 1951-53. He worked for Dick Addink in Dick’s corn shelling business for a few years. Before farming and dairy farming full time, John worked at Kosters Manufacturing of Sioux Center. He continued farming after moving to town in 1984. The last three years had been spent fishing, woodworking, traveling and helping his sons on the farm. John was a member of First Reformed Church and the VFW, both of Sioux Center.
He is survived by his wife, Nelvie; six sons, Don and Arnola of Sioux Center, Rob and Deanna of Sioux Center, Ken and Mary of Maurice, Nelson and Chris of Sioux Center, Glenn and Roxann of a Sioux Center, and Bernard and Kim of Sioux Center; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Louis and Hermina Wynia of Maurice, and Syne and Esther Wynia of Orange City; three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Wilmina) Wielenga of Orange City, Sadie and Gerald Van Ravenswaay of Orange City, and Cynthia and Wilson Haarsma of Jenison, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lorna Mae; and one grandson, David Allen.
