BOYDEN, Iowa — Walter Warntjes, 82, of Boyden died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1994, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at First Reformed Church in Boyden with the Rey. Mark Volkers officiating. Burial will be in Sheriden Township Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mr. Wamtjes was born November 22, 1911 in Sioux Center to John and Martha (DeZeeuw) Wamtjes. When he was 8 he moved with his family to a farm one mile south and a half mile west of Perkins. After graduating from a country school in 1926 he attended high school in Hull for one year before working at his parents’ farm.

He married Esther Den Hartog June 22, 1934 in Carmel. They farmed for 37 years near Boyden where he became a country school director and served as chairman there for many years. He also worked as a carpenter, part time hog buyer, bulk fuel truck driver (five years) and a school bus driver for three years. He served on the Sioux County Board of Supervisors for 12 years and was Deputy County Weed Commissioner for five years. He retired in 1969 for health reasons.

Mr. Warntjes was a member of First Reformed Church in Boyden and a founding member of the Men’s Brotherhood. He lived on the same farm for 67 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Joyce and John Kroese of Hull; three sons and their wives, Adrian and Patricia and Mark and Cindy of Boyden, Wayne and Susan of Springdale, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. John P. (Henrietta) Westra of Hull; fifteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Henry and Richard; a sister, Dorothy Fylstra; and a granddaughter, Mariah Warntjes.
