SUSAN M. WASSENAAR
Susan M. Wassenaar, 93, of Mossyrock, Wash, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Morton General Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 27 at the Church of the Brethren in Ajlune. The Rev. Bruce Baskins officiated. The Fir Lawn Funeral Home in Toledo was in charge of arrangements.
Susan was born June 5, l907, at Steens, the Netherlands, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Wiersma) Hoekstra, She immigrated with her parents to Maurice. She married Herman Wassenaar in 1929, and resided in Alton until 1941, when the family moved to Tillamook, Ore. In 1946, she moved to Riffe, Wash, and later Mossyrock, Wash., where she lived until her death.
Susan was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting pillow cases, her family and helping others. She was well known for her breadmaking talents. She was an active member of the Church of the Brethren in Ajiune where she was the church greeter and worked in the food bank for several years.
Survivors include a son, Gerald of Tigard, Ore.; two daughters, Betty Duncan of Vancouver, Wash, and Kathy Kinnaman of Olympia, Wash.; a brother, Harry Hoekstra of Maurice; a sister, Alyda Dekker of Orange City; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hermanjn 1981; a son, Howard in 1965; two brothers, Jake Hoekstra and Ellsworth Hoekstra, and a sister, Gertrude Ver Muln.
