MYLES DE VOS
Myles De Vos, age 21, of Orange City, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, August 1, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, IA., John Block officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, IA..
Myles Alan was born March 25, 1981, in Le Mars, the son of Jeffrey Dale and Kathy Jo (Jorgensen) De Vos. He was raised at Orange City, where he graduated from the M-OC Floyd Valley High School. He had completed his first year of computer technology at the Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.
Myles was a member of the First Reformed Church and was active in TEC (Teens Encounter Christ). He enjoyed participating in the church's youth activities, especially their work project in Benton Harbor, Mich.
He was an avid racing fan and admired NASCAR driver Dale Jarret. He liked to watch television, particularly weather forecasts and sports events.
As a victim of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Myles was an inspiration to all who knew him. He touched countless lives, and the community responded to him in many ways. He appreciated the relationships he had with all his good friends.
Survivors include his parents, Jeffrey and Tammy De Vos of Orange City and Kathy and Michael Heronemus of Sheldon; grandparents, Herman and Myrtle De Vos of Orange City, John and Beverly Phipps of Cherokee, Andrew and Wilmina Oostra of Rock Valley, IA., and Elmer and Myrna Heronemus of Ashton four brothers and sisters, K.C. De Vos, Nicole De Vos, Holly De Vos, and Sean Heronemus; and an honorary brother Jon De Koster of Orange City, IA.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Leonard Jorgensen, Jr.
