ALTON, Iowa - Mrs. Martin (Armella M.) Willett, 82, of Alton died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Orange City Health System Long Term Care Facility in Orange City, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Monsignor Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m today. with a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. Mary’s Rosary Society and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.
Mrs. Willett was born Dec. 31, 1919, in rural Remsen, the daughter of Nicholas J. and Margaret (Majeres) Ruden. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education in the rural school system. On Sept. 14, 1943, she married Martin Willett in Remsen. They made their home near Remsen, where they engaged in farming. In 1965, they moved to near Alton, where they farmed until 1969. In 1971, she began working at Harkers Inc. in Orange City until her retirement in 1981. She also worked part-time at the OK Cafe in Alton until 1989. They moved into Alton in 1978. Martin died April 1, 1997. She had been a resident of the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Health System since May 2002. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. the church Guild, St. Mary’s Rosary Society, all of Alton, and the Ladies Catholic Order of
Foresters of Remsen.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Clarence and Jean, and Allen and Linda. all of Alton, and Phillip and Karen of Aurora, Cob.; a daughter. JoAnn Willett of Altoona, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Wilfred "Doc" Wurth of Le Mars. Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sylvester (Veronica "Toni") Ruden of Remsen and Mrs. Arnold (Florentine) Ruden of Marcus, Iowa: and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; seven brothers, Norbert in infancy, John, Frank, Arnold, Sylvester and Edmund Ruden: and five sisters, Mrs. Wilfred (Mary) Wurth, Mrs. Raymond (Bertha) Ludwig, Mrs. Paschal (Mathilda) Wurth, Mrs. John (Helen) Kincaid and Evelyn Ruden in infancy.
