MARGARET DE KOTER
Margaret De Koter, 85, of Orange City, died Thursday, October 24, 2002, at the Orange City Hospital.
A funeral service was held on Monday, October 28, at 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Margaret was born Dec. 25, 1916, near Sanborn, IA.., the daughter of John and Elsie (Wassink) Broek, Sr. She was raised at Sioux Center , IA.. On Dec. 3, 1943, she married William De Koter at Sioux Center. They made their home in Maurice where Margaret was a homemaker. In 1967, they moved to Orange City. "Bill" died May 29, 2000, at Orange City. In June of 2000, Margaret became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.
Mrs. De Koter was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church. In earlier years she belonged to the First Reformed Church in Maurice where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She had been active in the women's organizations of both churches.
Margaret enjoyed doing handwork, especially knitting and crocheting. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, particularly bringing food to those who were ill or shut-in. Being a very social person, her many circles of relatives, friends and neighbors were important to her.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Gary and Linda De Koter, of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Elaine and Mike Eisele of Onawa, IA., and Dan and Katy De Koter, of Spirit Lake; seven grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Michael Den Bleyker of Albuquerque, N.M.; Brad De Koter and his wife Sarah, of St. Louis, Mo.; Rory Eisele of Bremerton, Wash.; Ryan Eisele of Onawa, Andrea De Koter of Binghamton, N.Y.; Lindsay De Koter of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Michael Zito of Spirit Lake; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Michael Christopher and Nicole Linn Den Bleyker, and Raiden Skylar De Koter; six brothers and sisters, Mathilda and her husband, John Van Beek of Ireton; Bertha Klein of Sioux Center; Bill Broek and his wife, Ina of Orange City; Cornie Broek and his wife, Berdie of Sioux Center; John Broek and his wife Gert of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Chris and her husband, Pete Schouten of Ireton; five sisters-in-law, Cornelia Broek of Rock-Valley, Cora Broek of Sioux Center, Audree and her husband, Dick Durward of Tumwater, Wash., Betty and her husband, Arlen Beeck, of Boulder, Colo, and Ruth De Koter of Sioux Center; three brothers-in-law, Jim Franken of Sioux Center, Gaynor Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center and Herman Van Donkelaar of Hull; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in- law, Ellen De Koter; two brothers, Dave and Arend Broek; two sisters, Nellie Franken and Elsie Te Grotenhuis; three brothers-in-law, Clarence Klein, Arthur De Koter and Peter De Koter; and two sisters-in-law, Christina Van Donkelaar and Cornelia Gearhart.
