Berniece H. Wiese, 76. of Orange City passed away Tuesday. Feb. 11, 2003, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. with the Revs. Jonathan Opgenorth and Donald Lenderink officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Saturday in West Lawn Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today. with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Berniece Helen, who was known as "Bea", was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Alvord, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Anna (Brandsma) Ver Wey. She was raised in Inwood, Iowa. On Sept. 9, 1950, she married Bennard Roy Wiese in Sioux Falls. S.D. They lived in Sioux Falls, Vermillion, S.D., and Sheldon, IA. In 1963 the moved to Orange City. Her greatest love in life was helping and comforting those in need. She was a dedicated wife. mother and grandmother, whose family was very important to her. She enjoyed doing handwork and baking, often sharing the goodies with others. She was an avid Northwestern College basketball fan. In earlier years, she was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Iowa. where she sang in a women’s trio. She currently was a member of Trinity Reformed Church and was active in the women’s organizations of both churches. She was a volunteer at Hands Around the World in Orange City and she belonged to the Northwestern College Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, "Ben": five children and their spouses, Barbara and Allan De Graaf of Tulsa, Okla., Brenda and Ron Jacobs of Alta Loma, Calif., Bonnie and John Levendoski of Lenexa, KA., Brian and Sarah Wiese of West Des Moines and Belinda and Doug Zylstra of Renton, Wash.: nine grandchildren, Nate De Graaf and his wife, Beth of Hendersonville, Tenn., Angie and her husband, Charley Hardesty , of Bardstown, Ky., Jesse Jacobs, Christina and her husband, Matt Van Voorst, and Jennifer Jacobs, all of the Los Angeles, Calif. area, Samuel and Benjamin Wiese of West Des Moines and Dylan and Jacob Zylstra of Renton, Wash.; a great-granddaughter, Cora Beth Van Voorst: a brother and his wife, John and Evelyn Ver Wey of Sioux Falls, S.D.: a sister and her husband, Anna Mae and Gene Lee of Sioux Falls; and a sister-in-law, Betty Ver Wey of Estero, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Melanie Jacobs: a sister and her husband, Susan and Allen Franken; and a brother, Richard Ver Wey.
