Raymond Alvin Wielenga was the son of Peter Reinder Wielenga and Roelvina Cleveringa Wielenga. On June 24, 1947, he married Joyce Elanor Van Wyk at Orange City.
Ray attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, until entering the United States Armed Forces during World War II, serving in the South Pacific area for three years. After the war, he was employed by the Sioux County Engineer’s Office for two years and then by the Ford Motor Company for ten years. In 1960, he purchased the American Legion Bowling Alley and Cafe in Orange City, operating that until just recently. For seven years, Ray also served as pilot for Associated Milk Producers.
Mr. Wielenga was a member of the First Reformed Church and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Joyce; daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Linda Joy) Vande Brake, of Orange City; three grandchildren, Michael Ray, Mark Ryan, and Robin Joy; father, Peter R. Wielenga, of Orange City; sister, Mrs. Orville (Arlene) Oolman, of Orange City; and two brothers, Wilmar Wielenga, of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Peter Wielenga, Jr., of Engelwood, Colorado.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth.
