JENNIE VAN ROEKEL
Mrs. Jennie Van Roekel, age 93, of Orange City, passed away Thursday, November 20, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
The funeral service was held on Monday, November 24, at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Stanley Vandersall officiated with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City in charge of arrangements.
Jennie was born to Maggie (Roelfson) Peuse and John Peuse of Maurice on May, 28, 1904.
On August 20, 1925, she married Benjamin Van Roekel at Maurice. They farmed near Maurice and were members of the Maurice First Reformed Church, where she was active in the ladies’ societies.
In November, 1962, they retired and moved to Orange City. They then became members of the Trinity Reformed Church, where Jennie was involved in Reformed Church Womens Ministries.
Mr. Van Roekel passed away on November 10, 1989 at Rock Rapids.
In August, 1988, she moved into the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, and in September, 1994, she became a resident of the Heritage House.
Surviving are her son and his wife, Lawrence and Gertrude Van Roekel, of Alton; two daughters and their husbands, Frances and Gerritt Kroeze, of Sheldon; and Joyce and Donald Groen, of Maurice; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Peuse and Katie Van Berkum, of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Henry and Harriet Peuse, of Orange City; and three sisters-in-law, Hester Peuse, of Sioux Center; Cynthia Peuse, of Orange City; and Irene Peuse, of Sioux City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Den Ouden and Minnie Bras; and three brothers, William, Evert, and John Peuse.
