MINA E. VERDOORN
ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Mina Elmira Verdoorn, 89, of Orange City, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 1995, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. Rev. Steven Varider Molen will be officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the VanEtten-Oolman-VanGelder Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mrs. Verdoorn was born May 24, 1906, at Orange City, the daughter of John and Minnie (DeJong) Aalberts. She was raised in Orange City. She married John Verdoorn Aug. 21, 1928 in Orange City. He died Feb. 2, 1981 in Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County for many years and then operated a resort in Minnesota for eight years. They retired to Hospers, Iowa. In April of 1980 they returned to Orange City. A couple years after Mr. Verdoorn’s death she became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In June of 1994, she transferred to the Heritage House.
Mrs. Verdoorn was a member of the First Reformed Church and enjoyed doing handwork.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose and her husband, William Van Veidhuizen of Sheldon, Joan Huizenga of Orange City, and Dorothy Even of Alton; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edwin Aalberts of Bemidji, Minn.
She was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Bernard Huizenga and Tom Even; and three brothers, Garrett, Rev. Gradus, and Alfred Aalberts.
