WILLIAM VAN ROOYEN
ORANGE CITY, Iowa — William Earl "Bill" Van Rooyen, 84, of Ames and formerly of Orange City, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 1994, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Newkirk Reformed Church with the Rev. Dennis Hietbrink officiating. Burial will be in the Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of VanEtten-Oolman-VanGelder Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mr. Van Rooyen was born Sept. 20, 1909, in Sioux County, the son of Jacob and Ida (Vellinga) Van Rooyen. He was raised at Newkirk. On Feb. 27, 1935, he married Jeanette De Graaf at Newkirk. The couple farmed at Newkirk. She died Feb. 14, 1962, in Orange City. He married Martha Faye Hetherington Ver Heul, Feb. 15, 1963, in Alton. They retired to Bradenton, Fla., in 1976 and moved to Orange City in 1984. In 1991, they became residents of the Green Hills Retirement Complex. Mr. Van Rooyen was a member of Newkirk Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory and had been a longtime Sunday school teacher. He had also served as president of the board of directors of the Newkirk Consoldated School.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Lynn and Larry Zwagerman of Ames; a son and his wife, William and Pam Van Rooyen of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; a stepson and his wife, Robert and Molly Ver Heul of Cherokee; five grandchildren, Kelly Zwagerman, Daniel Zwagerman, Carol Lamoureux, Jennifer Van Rooyen, and Jessica Van Rooyen and three great-grandchildren, Quin and Cooper Schultz and Christian Lamoureux.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Van Rooyen; and two sisters, Kate Huisnian and Jeanette Van Oort.
