DICK VANDER STOEP
IRETON, Iowa - Dick VanDer Stoep, 76, of Ireton died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at his residence in Ireton.
Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesdav at First Reformed Church in Ireton with the Rev. Doug Van Aartsen officiating. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, Iowa. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.. at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.
Dick VanDer Stoep was born Dec. 28, 1928, north of Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Floris and Gertie (Mulder) VanDer Stoep. He was raised in the Hawarden and Ireton areas, attending country school near Hawarden. He served in the U.S. Army from June 22, 1951, to March 27, 1953. On Feb. 8, 1955, he married Gladys De Jager. They farmed in the Maurice, Iowa, area and two children were born to this marriage. Gladys died Sept. 2, 1979. Dick later married Evelyn De Vries on April 3, 1981. They made their home in Ireton. Dick enjoyed farming and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Ireton.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn: two sons and three step-children and their spouses, Larry and Marcia VanDer Stoep and Lyle and Karen VanDer Stoep, all of Maurice. Rodney and Donna De Vries of Red Oak, Iowa, and Ruth and Randall Westergard and Debra De Vries of Ireton; 12 grandchildren. Jeffrey and Jeremy VanDer Stoep, Lukas, Jacob, Matthew and Kyle VanDer Stoep, step-grandchildren, Aimee and Greg Vander Feen. Sarah and Luis DaLa Cuba, Joshua and Andrea Westergard, Casey Westergard, David and Tami De Vries and Ronald and Jackie De Vries; four step-great-grandchildren, Dillon and Madeline Vander Feen, Hailey Westergard and Chloe De Vries: four siblings and their spouses, Sadie and Clarence Ver Hoeven of Hawarden,Gertrude and Bill Kooi of Orange City, Edwin and Noreen VanDer Stoep of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Harold and Bernice VanDer Stoep of Maurice: and two sisters-in-law, Harriet VanDer Stoep and Margaret VanDer Stoep.
He was preceded in death by his first wife. Gladys: his parents; three brothers, Andrew, Herb and Clarence VanDer Stoep: a sister-in-law, Hermina VanDer Stoep; and a brother-in-law, Arlin Mohlenkamp.
