LILLIAN SURBER
Lillian Eleanor Surber, 72, of Wayne, Neb. died Oct. 2, 2002, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11:00 am, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne. Rev. William Koeher officiated Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.
Lillian was born April 20, 1930, at Oakland, Neb., the daughter of Gust and Hanna (Hill) Nord. She was confirmed at First Covenant church in Oakland and graduated from Oakland Public Schools in 1947 and Wayne State College in 1951. She married Charles Surber on Feb. 18, 1951, at Oakland. Lillian taught school in Dixon and Winside before she and Charles purchased a clothing store "The Fashion Shop" in Orange City in 1963.
The couple returned to Wayne, Neb. in 1973 and purchased the Larson-Florine Clothing Store which they named Surber’s Clothing. They retired in 1994 and spent their winters in Texas.
Mrs. Surber was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Wayne Country Club, Business and Professional Women, Wayne Chamber of Commerce and bridge clubs.
Survivors include her husband Charles; a son, Todd Surber of South Korea; a daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Kevin McCright of Columbus; three grandchildren Shannon and Kyle McCright of Columbus and Shellie Surber of South Korea; three sisters, Dorothy and Clitus Olson of Westminister, Colo., Jeannette and Rudy Horwath of Omaha, Neb., and Marilyn Baker of Oakland, Neb.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Marian Surber of Wayne; nieces; nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
