SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Edward Schaap, 87, of Sioux Center died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Facility.
Memorial services will be 11 am. Friday at First Reformed Church Chapel in Sioux Center. Burial will be prior to services Friday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Schaap was born in Sioux Center, to Dick and Bertha (Vande Brake) Schaap, on Sept. 11, 1914. He attended country school.
On Jan. 23, 1934, he married Elizabeth Willemstyn in Sioux Center. The couple farmed near Sioux Center. He also worked for the ASCS office in Orange City, Iowa. They retired and moved into Sioux Center. They moved to Regency Retirement Center in 1992. He entering Sioux Center Community Hospita! Nursing Facility in 1998.
He was a member of First Reformed Church. He enjoyed flying and owned his own plane.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Norman and Anna Schaap of Sioux Center; two daughters and their husbands, Lorna and David Moss of Sioux Center and Elsie and Donald ( Nibbelirik) of Lansdale, Pa.; a son-in-law and his wife, John and Norma Van Wyk of Sioux Center; 17 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister and her husband, Bernice and Hubert Noteboom of Orange City; a brother and his wife, John and Ruth Schaap of Hayward, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995; a daughter, Shirley Van Wyk.
