ARTHUR STATEMA
IRETON, Iowa - Arthur Statema, 81, of Sioux Center, Iowa, formerly of Ireton, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, with the Rev. Ron Sprik officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Mr. Statema was born Sept. 19, 1919, the son of Peter and Anna (Jansma) Statema.
He married Geraldine Schuller on July 21, 1941, in Maurice, Iowa. The couple lived near Maurice and Lebanon before moving to Ireton. He was a farmer and a part-time truck driver. He also was employed as a custodian at West Sioux Schools. His wife died June 21, 1998.
He was a member of Ireton Christian Reformed Church, where he served as deacon.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Don and Helen of Hospers, Iowa, Peter A. and Nancy of Orange City, Iowa, and Merlin and Gayle of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three daughters and their husbands, Joanne and Gerald Franken of Sioux Center, Glenda and Gailyn Hagena of Lennox, S.D., and Bonnie and Art Boone of Sheldon, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ann Zomermaand of Sioux Center, Betty Sikma of Hull, Iowa, Geneva Burggraaf of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Priscilla Huizenga of Orange City; and two brothers, Clarence of Rock Valley and Peter of Ireton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Frank; a sister, Madeline; two infant siblings; twin infant grandsons; and an infant great-grandson.
