ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Wil1iam Wayne "Bill" Starkenburg, 93, of Orange City died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alton Presbyterian Church in Alton, Iowa, with the
Rev. Stanley W. Vander Weide officiating. Burial was in Nassau Township Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mr. Starkenburg was born Feb. 12, 1906, in Volga, S.D., the son of Sjored and Catherine "Kate" (Van Laar) Starkenburg. He was raised in Volga and Bigelow, Minn. He married Genevieve Marie Kuyper on April 18, 1930, in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple made their home in Alton, where he was employed with Sioux County Road Department, Alton Cement Works and the City of Alton as a policeman for 30 years. He retired about 1980. She died Aug. 30, 1995, in Orange City. He entered Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in December 1998. He was a member of Alton Presbyterian Church and enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Albert Mouw and Wanda and Marvin Zeutenhorst, all of Orange City and Carol and Kenneth Kooistra of Forsyth, Mo.; six grandchildren, Sue Mars, Cindy Baker, Dennis Zeutenhorst, Deane Walburg, Kenneth Jr. and Kristi Kooistra; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Root of Beilfiower, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Zeutenhorst Rozeboom; four brothers, George in infancy, John, Fred and Garrett; and two sisters, Ollie Brower and Arlene Castle.
