JENNIE SCHALEKAMP
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Jennie Schalekamp, 86. of Orange City, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the Heritage House Nursing Home, Orange City. A memorial service will he held at 1 p.m., Saturday at the First Reformed Church, Orange City with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today with the family present until 8:30 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City. There will be a family prayer service at noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Jennie was born Feb. 2, 1918, at Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (De Vries) Van Gelder. She was raised on a farm north of Orange City. On Feb. 22, 1946. she married Marion Adrian Schalekainp at Orange City. They farmed at Maurice until 1974, when they moved into Orange City. In December of 1997, they became residents of the Heritage House. Marion passed away Feb. 13, 2003, in Orange City. Mrs. Schalekamp was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Robert and Joanne Schalekamp of Orange City; and Douglas and Linda Schalekamp of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two granddaughters, Wendi Schalekamp of Sioux Falls; and Jackie Sdhalekamp of Orange City; a step-granddaughter and her husband, Angie and Steve Scarberry of Sioux Falls; two brothers and their wives, Randall and Bertha Van Gelder of Orange City; and Kenneth and Henrietta Van Gelder of Ireton; three sisters, Margaret and her husband John Reinders of Orange City; Mary and her husband Mary Vlieger of Chandler, Minn.; and Agnes Van Gelder of Orange City: two sisters-in-law, Carol Van Gelder of Orange City: and Fran Van Gelder of Colton, Calif.: and a brother-in-law, Peter Kleinwolterink of Orange City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Johanna Hofland and three brothers, George, Gerrit, and Charles Van Gelder.
Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Reformed Church, for their new fellowship hall.
