ROGER K. SMIT
June 9, 1953—Feb. 16. 2000
NEWTON—Roger K. Smit, 46, Newton, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton Presof cerebral hemorrhage.
Services were Monday, Feb. 21, at First Presbyterian Church in Newton, with the Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating. Burial was at Center Friends Cemetery in rural San-Newton, under the direction Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Roger Smit, son of Arnold and Betty (Dykstra) Smit, was born June 9, 1953, in Sioux Center. He graduated from Boyden-Hull High School in 1971, and was a graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City.
He married Sandra K. Nettinga on Sept. 23, 1977, in Hull. He was a desktop publication specialist the Maytag Company, where he, worked for 16 years.
He was a member of First. Presbyterian Church, a member of the
church choirs, a youth group leader and a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Maytag Management Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Smit of Newton; a son, Ben Smit of Newton; a daughter, Emily Smit of Newton; his parents, Arnold and Betty Smit of Orange City; three brothers. Ron and Adri Smit of Hospers, Carl and Joy Smit of Holstein and Arlen and LeAnn Smit of Orange City; and two sisters, Audrey and Perry Ramen of Hull and Joan and Randy Williams of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his for grandparents.
