GENEVIEVE "Toodie" STARKENBURG
Mrs. Genevieve "Toodie" Starkenburg, age 83, of Alton, passed away Wednesday, August 30, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 4, at 10:00 a.m., at the Alton Reformed Church. The Rev. E. Bradley Carlos, the Rev. C. Orville Kool, and the Rev. Kenneth Kooistra, Jr., officiated. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.
Genevieve Marie was born April 15, 1912, at Alton, the daughter of Sebastian and Jennie (Mulder) Kuyper. She was raised at Alton.
On April 18, 1930, she married William W. Starkenburg at Le Mars. They made their home in Alton. She was a cook at the Alton Bowling Alley for twelve years and a cook at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City for thirteen years.
On March 9 of this year, she became a resident of the Heritage House.
Mrs. Starkenburg was a member of the Alton Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Albert Mouw and Wanda and Marvin Zeutenhorst, all of Orange City; and Carol and Kenneth Kooistra, of Forsyth, Missouri; six grandchildren, Sue Mars, Cindy Baker, Dennis Zeutenhorst, Deane Walburg, Kenneth Kooistra, Jr., and Kristi Kooistra; nine great-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Minten, of Alton; Arlene Bierma, of Sioux Center; and Wilma Zevenbergen, of Alton; and a brother, Harold Kuyper, of Boise, Idaho.
She was preceeded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Rozeboom, and a sister, Anna Mae Goslinga.
