ABRAHAM SCHIEBOUT
ORANGE CITY, Iowa -Abraham Schiebout, 82, of Orange City died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. C. Orville Kool officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Mr. Schiebout, known as "Abe," was born May 9, 1919, in Ireton, Iowa, the son of Christian and Lena (De Groot) Schiebout. He was raised in Sioux Center, Iowa. He worked on farms as a young adult. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Nelvera Hendrene Roos on Nov. 27, 1942, in Alton, Iowa. They made their home in Orange City, where he first sold insurance and hybrid seed corn. Later, he founded FANDSCO, which distributed Ralco feed additives for livestock. He retired in 1987.
He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also was active in community affairs, especially the American Legion Pressman-Kosters Post and the Boy Scouts, serving as a scoutmaster. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Firman and Cheryl Schiebout of Shanghai, China; two daughters, the Rev. Arlyce Schiebout of Cardinal, Ontario, Canada, and Dr. Denise Schiebout and her husband, Joseph Dixon of Grosse Ile, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Annette Schiebout of West Dundee, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Sara Schiebout, Janson and Christine La Bond. Jessen and Kyle Schiebout, Benjamin, Thomas and Andrew Dixon; two brothers, Chris Schiebout of Holland, Mich., and Conn Schiebout of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and two sisters, Anna Gesink of Wayland, Mich., and Dinah Ter Horst of Ireton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Nolan Schiebout who died in April 2001; and six brothers, Ferdinand, Henry C., Herman, Gerrit, Ben and Joe Schiebout.
