MAURICE, Iowa — Lois M. Vore, 70, of Maurice died Thursday, April 13, 1995, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, Iowa. Visitation will be today, with the family present 2:30 to 4 p.m., at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton, Iowa.

Lois Margaret Frieda Johnson Holtdorf Vore was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Union County, S.D., the daughter of William and Hannah (Tieden) Johnson. Following her father’s death when she was 6, she lived with her mother and maternal grandparents, John and Margaret Tieden of rural Hawarden. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1941 and attended Wayne State College for a year. She then taught at country schools in Hawarden and grade school in Cleghorn, Iowa. She married John Wesley Holtdorf of Ireton Dec. 27, 1946. They moved to Maurice in 1949, where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a homemaker and substitute teacher and cook for many years at the Maurice Orange City Community Schools. Mr. Holtdorf died April 15, 1975.

She married Earl K. Vore of Maurice, a widower with five children, June 3, 1976. She worked as a cook for Heritage House in Orange City until retiring in 1994. She enjoyed many hobbies and antiques, including collecting and displaying her 500 pieces of colored glass. She traveled, played cards, and participated in the Maurice Women’s Club and her church functions.

Mrs. Vote was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden before joining St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton and then the Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Survivors include her husband; her mother of Le Mars; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Leon Vanden Berg of Silver Spring, Md., and Kristi A. Holtdorf of Santa Monica, Calif.; four stepsons, Jeff and his wife Deb of Maurice, Curt and his wife Len of rural Merrill; Iowa, Todd and his wife Laurie of Alton, Iowa, and Larry and his wife Brenda of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Kerri Jo and her husband Bob Buckley of rural Maurice; and 12 grandchildren, Jason, Spencer, Ouinton, Justin, Tasha, Joseph, Christopher, Timothy and Larry Jr. Vore, and Joshua, Kenton and Clayton Buckley.
