Dorothy Vander Stelt
Sioux Center, Iowa - Dorothy Vander Stelt, 76, of Sioux Center died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Facility.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Dorothy Mae was born Sept. 15, 1925, near Le Mars, Iowa, to Johannes and Agnes (Kotje) De Groot. She attended country school. On July 28, 1947, she married Cornelius Vander Stelt in Sioux Center. For many years she did cleaning and also cooked briefly at Dordt College. She was a member of First Reformed Church and enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Cornie; three daughters and their husbands, Crystal and Wayne Brink of Maurice, Iowa, Gloria and Henry Paulsen of Sheldon, Iowa, and Maria and Terry Hooyer of Maurice: seven grandchildren: 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sadie Van Peursem and her husband, Marion of Maurice, Elsie Wissink of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Jeanette Wagner of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Alice De Groot of Sioux Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Marilyn Kay and Julie Ann Vander Stelt; a grandson; a granddaughter; her parents: and a brother, Peter De Groot.
