WILBERT VANDE KIEFT
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -Wilbert Vande Kieft, 90, of Sioux Center died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at the Nursing Wing in Sioux Center.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Duane Tinklenburg officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Mr. Vande Kieft was born to Geurt and Nellie (Van’t Hul) Vande Kieft on Oct. 22, 1911, near Ireton, Iowa. He attended country school near Orange City, Iowa. Wilbert farmed with his father.
He married Henrietta DeJager on Jan. 31, 1934. They farmed in various locations in Sioux County until 1960, when they moved to Sioux Center. He was then employed at Coop Produce as an egg hauler for 14 years. In 1975, Wilbert and Henrietta became janitors at American State Bank. employed there for 20 years. He also helped in the office of Midwest Hay and Straw Co. for 10 years. They retired in 1995 and moved to the New Homestead for a couple of years, then to Franken Manor and into the Nursing Wing in Sioux Center in the spring of 2000. Wilbert was a present member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, where he was a deacon and active in the Men’s Society.
Wilbert is survived by his wife, Henrietta; a son and his wife, Harold and Kathy of Orange City; four grandchildren, Wanda, Harlan, Kay and her husband, Neal Koole, and Brian; two great-grandchildren, Katie Koole and Matthew Vande Kieft; and a sister, Gertie Nyhof of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Paul; two brothers, Bill and John; and two sisters, Reka Sinkey and Minnie Feenstra.
