CLARENCE VANDER STOEP
ORANGE CITY, Iowa -Clarence Vander Stoep, 71, of Orange City passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence. Services will be 10:30 am. Saturday at Redeemer United Re formed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Ralph Pontier officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Clarence was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Floris and Gertia (Mulder) Vander Stoep. He was raised in the Hawarden and Ireton, Iowa, area, attending country school near Hawarden. From November 1955 to October 1957, he served in the U.S. Army.
On Nov. 19, 1957, he married Harriet Joan Brinks in Middleburg, Iowa. They made their home in Orange City. He was a heavy equipment operator, working for Russell’s Ready-Mix, Joe’s Ready-Mix, then with his brother, Harold.
He was a member of Redeemer United Reformed Church. He was previously a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where he had served as a deacon and a cadet counselor for many years.
He enjoyed camping, tinkering with his tractors, watching his grandchildren participate in their activities, woodworking and reading, especially his Bible.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years; four children and their spouses, Carla and Jeris Vande Zandschulp of Sioux Center, Iowa, Brian and Karin Vander Stoep of Orange City, Jon and Sheila Heie of Sioux Center and Dave and Judy Dorhout of Hawarden; 11 grandchildren, Candice and her husband, Ryan Pendergrass, Nichole and Jessica Vande Zandschulp, Erica, Joshua and Tanner Vander Stoep, Stephanie and Lacey Heie and Jamie, Trevor and Quinton Dorhout; five brothers and sisters and their spouses, Sadie and Clarence Ver Hoeven of Hawarden, Dick and Evelyn Vander Stoep of Ireton, Iowa, Gertrude and Bill Kooi of Orange City, Edwin and Noreen Vander Stoep of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Harold and Bernice Vander Stoep of Maurice, Iowa; sister-in-law, Margaret
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Herb Vander Stoep; two sisters-in-law, Hermina and Gladys Vander Stoep: and a brother-in-law, Arlin Mohlenkamp.
