SANBORN, Iowa — Margaret Van Riesen, 85, of Sanborn died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at
Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Sanborn. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday. with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m.. at Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn.
Margaret Celia (Bomgaars) Van Riesen, the daughter of Marinus and Anna (DeYoung) Bomgaars, was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Chandler, Minn. She lived her youth and received her education in Middleburg, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Wessel Van Riesen on Sept. 11, 1940, in Middleburg. To this union nine children were born. The couple resided in Sheldon during their married life. During her lifetime, she was employed as a cook, a seamstress and did house cleaning. Wessel died April 30, 1992. She became a resident of Prairie View Nursing Home on Nov. 1, 1996.
She was a member of First Reformed Church, RCWM and Prairie View Auxiliary. Special interests included fishing, sewing and gardening. She also loved music and played the piano by ear and instilled the love of music as well as a love for the Lord in her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time she could spend with them.
Survivors include her children and spouses. Evelyn and Peter Kroese of Sanborn, Merril Van Riesen of Paramount. Calif., Art and Adrianna Van Riesen of Orange City, Iowa, Henrietta and Raymond Schnurr of Sanborn, Mary Ann and Gordon Abels of Orange City, Dean and Kelly Van Riesen of Windom, Minn., Marvin and Deanna Van Riesen of Sheldon, and Dorothy and Herman Schwarz of Sheldon; 34 grandchildren: 32 great-grandchildren; other relatives; many friends; and her special roommate. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Sgt. Alvin Van Riesen; a grandson. Douglas Kroese; a sister Celia: and two brothers, Arie and Roy.
