SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Nellie Toering, 90, of Sioux Center, formerly of Hospers, Iowa, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers, with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Burial will be in Hospers Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8:30 p.m. today, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the church. Vander Ploeg Chapel of Hospers is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Toering was born July 6, 1910, in Boyden, Iowa, the daughter of Arie and Aaltje (Muinin) Steenhoven. She married Mince Toering Feb. 18, 1931, in Boyden. He died Feb. 6, 1982. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and Priscilla Society. She enjoyed writing letters and cards. She also volunteered much of her time to the Trash for Cash program.Survivors include eight sons and their wives, Henry and Joyce of Jension, Mich., Arnold and Doris, Rodney and Wilma, David and Nancy, all of Grand Rapids, Mich., Steven and Corey of London, Ontario, Canada, Craig and Marla of Sioux Center, Marv and Linda of Orange City, Iowa, and Craig and Caryn of Grand Rapids; five daughters, Karleen Smits of Sioux Center, Alma and her husband, Charles Warren of Sioux Center, Norma and her husband, John Van Wyk of Sioux Center, Marilyn and her husband, Duane Trumpie of Lowell, Mich., and Sharon Dykhuizen of Sioux Center; 54 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.She also was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and two sons-in-law, John Smits and Harold Van Ravensway.
